Cast in blue glass at John Lewis Glass in Oakland, California, the sculpture graces a beautifully designed new home in Big Sky, Montana. Inspired by neolithic balancing weights used by early man on throwing sticks, called atlatyls, it adds a quiet blue note that harmonizes nicely with the design of the house as a whole.

The bi disc is an ancient symbol that perfectly distills the beauty of the path of the sun across the sky and the revolution of the heavenly bodies around the pole star’s fixed position. Its circular shape conveys equilibrium, symmetry, and completion. Elegant and austere, transparent and at the same time opaque, the Lone Pine Bi Disc is a contemporary interpretation of a timeless motif, sculpted in precise arcs of machined aluminum and the frozen liquid of cast glass.
